con un nombre inspirado por el escritor irvine walsh,la historia de my chemical romance comienza en el 2000 en los suburvios de nueva jersey cuando el cantante gerard way y el baterista matt pelissier,amigos desde la secundaria,deciden empezar a componer canciones con la idea de formar una nueva banda.al poco tiempo invitan al guitarrista ray toro y finalmente se les unen el guitarrista frank iero y el bajista mikey way(hermano menor de gerard).el grupo debuta en el 2002 con ''i broght you my bullets,you broght me you love'',producido por geoff ricky y editado por por un sello independiente con base en la ciudad de nueva york eyeball records.pronto su estilo oscuro y palpitante,con evidentes muestras de agonia introspectivas,''violento y peligroso''como le llama su propio vocalista,convense a los ejecutivos de reprise records quienes los unen a su elenco de artista.luego de 2 años la banda regresa con''three chers for sweet revenge'',producido por howard benson y en que persisten en su mezcla de acides de gothic-rock britanico de los ochentas con sus influencias de rock pesado,este año presentaron su tercer disco llamado ''the black parade''.
